Atlas Copco 400 Presents A New Challenge

Monday, 14th May 2012

Buoyed by its emphatic 1-2 success in the previous round in Mpumalanga in April, Toyota Motorsport’s team of Duncan Vos/Rob Howie and Anthony Taylor/Chris Birkin and their Castrol Toyota Hilux double cabs will start round three of the Absa Off Road Car Championship in KwaZulu-Natal this weekend (May 18 and 19) as the favourites.

“We’re in it to win it,” admitted Castrol Toyota team principal Glyn Hall.  “But we know we’re up against increasingly strong competition with a number of potential race winners, so we won’t be taking anything for granted.

After two rounds, four times champion Vos and Howie lead the championship with 36 points, followed by former champions Chris Visser/Japie Badenhorst (Ford Ranger) with 33 points and Taylor/Birkin and four times champion Hannes Grobler and former champion Hennie ter Stege (BMW X3) joint third with 25 points.

The Atlas Copco Timbertrack 400 will take competitors into the Umkomaas River and Byrne valleys with event headquarters, start/finish and designated service park at the Richmond Country Club.

Friday’s Donaldson prologue to determine start positions for Saturday’s race will start at 12.30 and will be over a short course of 55 kilometres.  The race will start at 08.30 and will cover two laps of
