IMPERIAL Toyota is a subsidiary of IMPERIAL Holdings, one of the largest listed groups in South Africa. IMPERIAL Holdings encompasses eight divisions, namely banking; insurance; leasing and fleet management; aviation leasing; logistics and transport; car rental and tourism; distributorships, and motor vehicle dealerships.

Over the years, the IMPERIAL Group diversified to include truck hire and car rental activities. In 1989, with its three main operations, namely motors, car rental and truck hire entrenched in their market segments, Imperial listed on the JSE.

In the same year, a new Toyota dealership and headquarters for IMPERIAL Toyota was erected in Commissioner Street in Johannesburg.
